The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) was constructed in 2014.
The facility contains 38 research laboratories, a library, conference rooms, and office space for 275 scientists and support staff. SWFSC provides scientific research to support the management and conservation of domestic and international living marine resources.
In 2017, NOAA funded the upgrade of existing computer room air conditioners (CRACs) in three locations. This upgrade was necessary to preserve critical functions during a potential catastrophic equipment failure or during periodic major preventative maintenance, so that in the event of a loss of chilled water the Dual Cooled Liebert would take over and provide uninterrupted mechanical cooling.
Lennox VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) mechanical cooling was also added to the cryogenic freezer room and a second server room to prevent overheating during a loss of chilled water.
